Who is this itinerary ideal for?

Mistakes to avoid

FAQ — 10-day Morocco itinerary

Are 10 days enough to discover Morocco?

Yes for a panoramic grand tour: 4 imperial cities + desert + coast. 14 days allow less fatigue, more immersion, and adding the south (Tafraoute, Draa Valley).

Should I drive myself or take a private driver?

Driving is feasible on highways, more demanding on small roads (Tizi n'Tichka, desert tracks). Private driver recommended for first-timers (€800-1500 over 10 days), especially with family or if uneasy about foreign driving.

What's the best season for this itinerary?

April-May and October-November: ideal temperatures everywhere. Avoid July-August (extreme Marrakech-desert heat >40°C).

Is this itinerary doable with kids?

Doable but long. Prefer 7 more restful days or split the itinerary into two trips. Long roads (D6, D8, D9) can be exhausting for young children.

What budget for 10 days in Morocco?

€1500-2800/person in 3-4★ excluding European flight. With flight and comfort: €2000-3300/person. In 5★ luxury: €5000+/person.

Agafay or Merzouga over 10 days?

Merzouga without hesitation over 10 days: real Sahara dunes, authentic experience, 2 days of necessary drive (impossible in classic 7 days). Agafay stays useful for those doing this itinerary in reverse and wanting a 2nd desert night.

Can I start with Marrakech instead of Casablanca?

Yes, in reverse: Marrakech → Aït Ben Haddou → Merzouga → Fes → Chefchaouen → Tangier or back to Casablanca. Better if your flight arrives in Marrakech.

Do I need a visa for Morocco?

No for EU, Swiss, Canadian, US passport holders — tourist stay up to 90 days. Passport valid 6 months minimum after return.

Bottom line

10 days in Morocco is the perfect format for a balanced grand tour: 4 imperial cities, 1 blue pearl, 1 desert, 1 UNESCO kasbah, and Marrakech medina warmth to close.

My 3 key tips:

  1. Book Merzouga 2 months ahead in high season — that's the stage that drains availability.
  2. Take a private driver if you're uneasy driving abroad or traveling with family — game changer.
  3. Keep half a day in Marrakech doing nothing — stroll the souks, sip mint tea on a terrace, let yourself be surprised.
